Companies are increasingly looking to have their facilities clean

Lives could be put at risk by an influx of companies offering to clean up potential coronavirus hotspots.

The market is being “flooded” by companies that didn't have the experience or equipment to operate safely or correctly.

This worries because something is going to go wrong.

Concerns were also raised by industry standards and the training body, the British Institute of Cleaning Science.

In Brazil, hundreds of companies across the territory launched fumigation and decontamination services after the coronavirus outbreak.

A recent survey reported that more than a third of pest controllers said they were now offering a Covid-19 disinfection service.

Other companies in other industries with little or no experience in decontamination, including a general trade company, offered disinfection of spaces such as offices, homes and supermarkets.

'Flooded Market' We have been involved in working in biohazard environments for the past 10 years, so it was easy to adapt to the Covid-19 outbreak.

However, I think there are a lot of companies looking for a market opportunity that don't have enough knowledge or the right equipment to deliver a service safely or correctly.

The market is being absolutely flooded right now by people of all types and backgrounds, and it worries us because something is going to go wrong.

“To use an analogy, it's like a journalist who decides to become a chef. They can write, but they don't necessarily know how to cook things safely, so people could end up getting sick."

Stan Atkins, Chief Executive of the British Institute of Cleaning Sciences, said: “Since the emergence of Covid-19, a number of cleaning companies claim to be 'qualified' to carry out 'deep cleans'.

“There is currently no way to verify the validity of these claims.

“We must remember that the cleaning industry is currently unregulated and anyone can claim to be a cleaning professional/expert.”

Given the high level of training required to use the right equipment and specialist cleaning products, clear advice for all companies is to only use accredited cleaning companies with a long history in this industry – otherwise you are risking the safety of your workers. and the public”.

be cautious with the services they intend to hire.
