Compulsive accumulation, also known as accumulation disorder, is a pattern of behavior that is characterized by excess purchase of items and an inability, or reluctance, to dispose of the large amount of objects that cover areas of the building and cause significant stress and loss function.
The behavior of compulsive accumulation is associated with health risks, impaired function, economic weight, and adverse effects on friends and family members, leading to total degradation in social relationships, in addition to generating environments of complete unhealthiness.
It is much more difficult for behavioral therapy to successfully treat compulsive accumulators that do not have a good view of the disease itself. Research results show that accumulators are much less likely
to see a problem in an accumulation situation than a friend or relative.
